Abhi’s Medical Journey
Abhi was born on June 6, 2007 in Michigan. At the time of his birth we were praying to God that he would not have the same medical issues as his sister, Sanju. But, despite the nurses originally not thinking anything was wrong, sadly, we knew from our Sanju experience that something was wrong and that Abhi was seizing.
Like all TESS parents, our medical journey started with constant ICU trips, ER visits and trying many different medications. Sometimes Abhi had unbearable seizures, in which even the nearest emergency staff couldn’t handle the situation and we had to airlift him to the University of Michigan. Those were and still are the scariest moments in our lives and we will never forget them.
In the first 3 years of his life, he was not able to do much, but after finding the right combination of medications, he was able to sit, crawl and stand up. Now, he is 13 years old and he can walk and vocalize many words, but he still needs continuous support in order to do daily activities.
We are very grateful to have a community like TESS Research Foundation which is working to a make a difference in all of our kids’ lives. We are also very thankful for all of the TESS donors, who are continuously supporting the research.
We hope that one day soon Gene Therapy will help create a miracle for all of our kids so they can do simple daily life activities on their own and enjoy life a bit more.
